The word is Needle</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/U2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>U2</span></a>, “Desire” from <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/RattleAndHum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RattleAndHum</span></a>, 1988</p><p>Lyric:<br>"She's the candle burnin' in my room<br>Yeah, I'm like the needle, the needle and spoon<br>Over the counter with a shotgun<br>Pretty soon everybody's got one"</p><p>Rattle and Hum is something of a forgotten album in U2's oeuvre. After the blockbuster <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/JoshuaTree" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JoshuaTree</span></a> and before they reinvented themselves on <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/AchtungBaby" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AchtungBaby</span></a>, it seemed they were out of ideas. So what did they do? They’d shown an appreciation for American idealism, they’d visited American geography; now they’d explore American music.</p><p>On Rattle and Hum, released as a film with accompanying soundtrack album, we have their findings, with notes. Many people found this tedious; I’ll admit it’s a bit uneven, but Desire, replete with <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/RockAndRoll" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RockAndRoll</span></a> cliches, works - because U2 are masters of rock cliches.
