The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>TONIC<br>Lemon Parade<br>2022 Europe reissue</p><p>When friends go through my library and come across this record, they always seem perplexed? </p><p>“This? Really? I figured this would be a band you hate.”</p><p>On the contrary.<br>I like this record a GREAT deal. Emerson Hart is a phenomenal rock singer and songwriter, and the guitars on this record sound phenomenal, thanks to outstanding production work by Jack Joseph Puig.</p><p>“Casual Affair” in particular sounds monstrous, and “Soldier’s Daughter”!is a bright, beautiful song with gorgeous, chiming guitar by Jeff Russo.</p><p>I always forget how many huge singles this record had (over on this side of the Earth, anyway).</p><p>Not so much a fan of the four records that followed, but this one will always have my respect and admiration. Just a great RAWK record.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/tonic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tonic</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1990s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1990s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90smusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90smusic</span></a></p>

I bought this because everyone’s said it sounds really good. And it does.</p><p>However, it does NOT sound better than the 2014. It’s far less dynamic sounding to my ears, but if you can’t get your hands on one of those, this is a very nice entry level pressing for those who want a vinyl version. </p><p>This album is still a stone-cold stunner, and the first album in a run of three that helped define the <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90s</span></a> for me. The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>SMASHING PUMPKINS<br>Gish<br>2011 UK remastered reissue</p><p>Last spin of this Saturday night, and I’m opening all the windows, and turning the knob FULL RIGHT.</p><p>The first two Pumpkins albums are essential cornerstones of my youth. I knew exactly where I was when I heard both for the first time.</p><p>I bought Gish on cassette from Spinnaker’s in Hyannis, Ma the same day I bought my CD copy of Dinosaur Jr.’s Green Mind (I only had enough for ONE CD). That album is phenomenal. </p><p>However, Priest=Aura is MY Church album.</p><p>I was a great abuser of the Columbia House/BMG “16 Tapes or CDs For A Penny” deal as a kid. The Vinyl Ape 🦧<p>MATTHEW SWEET<br>Girlfriend<br>2017 Europe MOV Reissue</p><p>Yesterday was 100% Fun, today it’s Girlfriend. </p><p>After some not good at all records, this is where Matthew finally found himself and broke through. Both Inside AND Earth are borderline unlistenable once you’ve heard everything from Girlfriend on.</p><p>I remember first hearing the title track; which was also the first time seeing the gnarly video for it, which featured clips from the rad Japanimation movie Space Adventure Cobra.</p><p>As full of great songs as this album is, and as much as I love it, it will always run second place to 100% Fun for me. <br>However, it’s more like a 1a and 1b. </p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinyl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinyl</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylrecords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylrecords</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcollection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcollection</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vinylcommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vinylcommunity</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/vintage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintage</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1990s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1990s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/1990s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1990s</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/90smusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90smusic</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/matthewsweet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>matthewsweet</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/girlfriend" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>girlfriend</span></a></p>

It may be my favorite lead off track on any album ever, and it sets the tone perfectly for everything that follows it. <br>I saw Matthew at one of the WBCN River Raves around when this record came out. He was SO loud and SO awesome. As a second stage artist that year, he blew away half the bands that were on the main stage that day at Great Woods.
