TERENCE TRENT D’ARBY
Introducing The Hardline According To Terence Trent D'Arby
1988 Canada pressing

A man who thought a lot of himself, and still does, even though he was never really anything more than a very poor man’s Prince.

All that being said, he did make one really good record before he was relegated to obscurity for the rest of his musical life.

He was SO much like Prince, that he even shed the name Terence Trent D’Arby, going by the name of Sananda Maitreya since 2001.
Which probably wasn’t a good idea.
When people really only know you for two songs, that really not enough ammo to pull off such a thing. A Prince situation that is not.

All that aside, this is a really good record.
“Sign Your Name” and “Wishing Well” are great songs, and on whole, it’s a pretty great pop album.
The Terence Trent D’Arby story starts and ends here for me.
The rest of his music greatly pales in comparison.

A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS
A Flock Of Seagulls
1982 Canada pressing

Another unjustly labeled “one hit wonder” band.
I’ve always found that to be such a dismissive term, as if any artists’ only value is in whatever their one hit was.

The song that this record is known for (“I Ran”) isn’t even the best song on this record. Start to finish, a phenomenal #synthpop album, which for me, is anchored by “Space Age Love Song”.

🇬🇧 Marc Almond "The Stars We Are" – 1988

Lush, sophisticated pop with a dark romantic edge — Marc Almond shines on this album, blending torch-song drama, synthpop textures, and baroque pop into a beautifully crafted, emotional journey. I love this standout moment in his solo career.
I wish there were room for the two bonus tracks you find on the CD...
