Right now there are a lot of new eyes on Signal, and not all of them are familiar with secure messaging and its nuances. Which means there’s misinfo flying around that might drive people away from Signal and private communications. 1/

people say “you can’t tax the rich, they’ll just leave” like that’s not the best possible outcome
End-to-end encryption is secure because it protects the contents of your communications in transit between the endpoints. If you make one of those endpoints an editor at The Atlantic, no amount of encryption is going to save you from your own stupidity.
bribecoding is a new phenomenon where you pay open source developers a living wage to work on projects that your business uses
Some customers, some jobs, you just don't ask.
To be clear, Trump does not have the authority to do this. The constitution explicitly states that "The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators"
That is, federal elections are governed by the states and by congress, not the president.

Let’s Encrypt at risk from Trump cuts to OTF: “Let’s Encrypt received around $800,000 in funding from the OTF”
Dear @EUCommission, get your heads out of your arses and let’s find @letsencrypt €1M/year (a rounding error in EU finances) and have them move to the EU.
If Let’s Encrypt is fucked, the web is fucked, and the Small Web is fucked too. So how about we don’t let that happen, yeah?
(In the meanwhile, if the Let’s Encrypt folks want to make a point about how essential they are, it might be an idea to refuse certificates to republican politicians. See how they like their donation systems breaking in real time…)

As the day ends, the Trump gang is not backing off an inch from its use of Signal, in blatant violation of the Federal Records Act. Democrats haven't yet focused on it; nor has most of the press.
But Josh Marshall gets it: "These are disappearing communications. They won’t be in the National Archives. Future administrations won’t know what happened. There also won’t be any records to determine whether crimes were committed."

Wow, this Pixelfed bug is *nasty*. Allowed users to access private posts of remote users they're not following so long as another user on the same Pixelfed server legitimately followed that account.
If you're running a Pixelfed server, definitely upgrade immediately now that the vulnerability is publicly known.
Hey everyone. If you're looking for a reliably good, local cause to support with your time or donations consider your local food bank. Reuters reports that many food banks across the country are already strained by rising demand and will have less food to distribute because of least $1 billion in federal funding cuts and pauses by the POTUS.
"Hunger in the U.S. has ticked up in recent years with rising inflation and the end of pandemic-era programs that expanded food aid. President Donald Trump's administration has vowed to lower inflation by cutting back on government spending, including two U.S. Department of Agriculture programs that helped schools and food banks buy food from local farms."
"Reuters spoke with food banks in seven states who said cancellation and pauses of the programs meant they expected to offer less produce, meat and other staples in the coming weeks and months, leaving scarcer food for those reliant on free supplies that helped stave off hunger."
"One reason is fewer expected shipments from USDA's The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), one of the agency's core nutrition programs that buys food from farmers and sends it to food pantries, some of the organizations said."

My husband is looking to get #fedihired. Anybody have job openings?
Here's his credentials:
* Master's in Library Sciences from UNC Chapel Hill
* Over a decade in project management experience, with significant experience in overseas projects in the UK
* Over a decade of experience working with government and municipal clients, knows how to fill out RFPs and RFQs like it's nobody's business
* Salesforce admin experience. He migrated the CRM database for an entire company to Salesforce a few years ago
* Javascript experience (related to Salesforce admin)
* Database management
* Subject matter expert on image file metadata and data preservation, wrote his master's thesis on data rot in hard drives and effective forms of cold storage
* Effective communicator and organizer, very literally wrote the reference book that the library of congress uses to organize their east asian collections
* Lots and lots of community connections with state libraries, presidential libraries, publishers and historical societies
* Sales manager handling government and nonprofit sales contracts for the past 5 years
* Extensive experience with categorizing and digitizing records, especially records that are hard to process with OCR
Requirements:
* Must be able to work remote
He's worked at the same library sciences company for longer than I've known him, but company leadership at his job are currently going the Trump route and decrying any discussion of the defunding of libraries as "forbidden political talk" even though it directly affects the industry he works in, so he's trying to find something where he can use his skills in a more productive way.
I’m seeing a lot of “WWDC was announced!”
And not a lot of “Don’t come to the US because it’s incredibly unsafe for anyone who’s non-white or queer”
And absolutely zero “we understand the difficulties faced by developers overseas so we’re hosting events around the world so everyone can take part”
In case there was any doubt we're dealing with full-scale fascism, now the Speaker of the House is threatening to "eliminate" a federal court because he doesn't like a judge's ruling.
1. Tulsi Gabbard was overseas while participating in the Signal chat.
2. Steven Witkoff was in Russia when he was added to the Signal chat.
3. Russia infiltrated Signal some time ago to use it against Ukrainians.
It’s high time to Benghazi the shit out of Trump’s administration.

Trump’s CDC is cancelling $11 billion in COVID funding allocated to health departments and nonprofits, claiming the grants are no longer necessary because the pandemic is over.
This is wrong. COVID is a continuing threat and millions have Long COVID. We still need to do more to mitigate its harms.
So…
Lemme get this straight. The Trump administration is so incontinent it can’t stop leaking the most secure of all defence plans, and…
To try and get the news cycle past it, they’ve decided to dismantle the entire federal judiciary.
Or, if that doesn’t fly, maybe they’ll decide to nuke Denmark?
We are in the completely batshit crazy upside-down now, with a bunch of end of the worlders who just don’t fucking care.
