I've slowly been trying to transition off Gmail, but I feel like I chose the wrong place for my new home.

Protonmail is nice, but I absolutely hate working with the bridge locally. I was also a dummy and told people my email, not an address one of my moving to a new service is going to take work.

Has anyone used fastmail? I'm debating switching to that (with a custom domain so I'm not locked in again)

@zstix lots of people here use Fastmail and recommend it. I’ve used it in the past and it’s great.

I now use Zoho and recommend that whenever I can.

@kev @zstix I used to use Zoho and moved to Fastmail. The main issue for me is that a lot of real correspondence was going to spam in Zoho mail.

@mwt @zstix I've not experienced that, personally. But I'm sure the experience is unique to everyone.

@kev @zstix I had the issue in 2016. At the time, it was so widespread that people were clamoring for an option to disable spam filtering altogether.

This option was added in 2017.

At this time, the $1/month plan was free and yet Zoho wasn't a service that was frequently recommended.

I mostly thought Zoho was fine, but it has issues. I went to login to my account to see if the spam option is still there. Unfortunately, my account settings will not load.

No issues with IMAP/SMTP though.

@_sven @zstix same, although I've heard Posteo is similar and sometimes better

@qu1nn @zstix Might be, but as far as I know you can't have a custom domain.

@zstix Fastmail is great. The ability to make email lists is a nice extra feature.

It has a really nice interface for making aliases quickly.
