Power went out last night and my raspberry pi got shut down...which meant my website went down too. That's a fun new problem I'm not use to!

Interviewing is both important and exhausting ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I've decided to finally switch over to neovim. There's been too many neat projects that aren't compatible with vim that I've been meaning to try (treesitter, telescope, etc).

I'm also not a fan of the "Keep me alive" plan for vim's future.

Sometimes I get frustrated when I have to remember which team prefers to communicate in email, slack, Jira comments, GitHub issues (the list goes on)...

So I made a helpful guide:

I need email recommendations.
Before you ask, no this is not about the recent ProtonMail thing.

I literally can't make a new ProtonMail account unless I use either a non-ProtonMail email or a phone number as verification.

Please don't recommend disroot, their signup page is absolute atrocious.

Spent the last few hours struggling with mbsync. I like the idea of having a local copy of my emails but I can't get the dang thing to authenticate.

I found this to be a fascinating concept:

Most of the time I spend "coding", I'm actually just thinking about the problem, a solution, and the next steps towards that solution. This is even more the case when working in a functional-style.

I might try this technique out to see what happens.

I just found a great way to reframe this. They're finding all of our bugs and weak points, which helps me make tickets and squash bugs. They're my outsourced QA team!

Someone in Russia (or someone with an exit node / VPN in Russia) really wants to break one of our websites today. Getting hammered by requests. Not a fun day to be on-call.

Still obsessed with this Battlesnake thing ๐Ÿ

I took a more functional & TDD approach to building one in . It's still not very smart, but it avoids walls, itself, and other snakes:

Next up, searching for food!

Switching back to for the week. I try to stay up to date with the editors that my team uses so I can help them if they get stuck.

I was pleasantly surprised to see just how much of the UI I could turn off. That + mode and this thing is actually kinda nice.

Have y'all seen ๐Ÿ

You create a server that accepts HTTP requests to control a snake and the you BATTLE WITH IT!!

I just spent several hours making a (very dumb) snake in Python (cause what else would I code it in?)

I've almost entirety moved off Google for alternatives, but I'm still struggling to find a solution to calendars. I share a few Google Google calendars with other people and I'm not sure if I can switch over without impacting them.

Gmail doing more sketchy things: clicking on links in your emails. Seems like a bad "feature".

Last day of a 9 day break from work. Even though I love my job, the are real.

Just picked up my first today. Surprised it's taken me this long to get one.

My plan is to use it as a web server for a few apps I host (foundryvtt, funkwhale, website, Gemini capsule).

Pretty stoked.

I have a (slightly irrational) hatred for the terms "best practice" and "industry standard".

Perhaps it's just my anecdotal experience, but these terms are often used as a flimsy justification for something. Who is using technology X? What governing body recommends X? Give me the details, not this marketing crap.

Is down for anyone else?

I had to resort to google (*gasp*) just now.
