I've got a bunch of DVD's (at least hundred of them) of varying age. What format and software would you recommend to convert them into so I can get rid of the physical medium? Criteria for the choice should be durability (I'd like to be able to access them in, say, 20 years with or without conversion) and pricing of the tool to be used. Open source preferred but not required. As storage medium I will use hard drives (with a redundant copy).
@ziegel it seems AV1 codec with mkv extension would be the best choice now
As it is FOSS, if you backup actual decoders and their upgrades until their EOL you will be able to play it probably forever.
