How to install MS Office (perpetual licence not subscription version) on a fresh Dell laptop... I know we don't like MS but when our friends and family doesn't have time to learn Linux and LibreOffice we need to help :(

So... OEM machines have Office Click to run (the subscription based one) pre-installed, because OEM gets commission from MS. Thus, you'll need to uninstall that one first. Reboot. Then install the perpetual version Office 2019 Home and Student or Home and Business

My preferred solution is (when not 100% MS compatibility is required AND friend/client is willing to invest time/effort into learning LibreOffice and Linux) is to ditch MS products. Otherwise you could also replace pre-installed Windows from microsoft.com/ro-ro/software-d
The license is baked into the motherboard, anyway.

I'm putting the blame for this particular situation on Dell (most other OEMs) are not much better either. They get a small commission from MS and cause by magnitudes more damage to their customers.

Having no physical access to the machine blocks most of the above solutions.

One more... Chrome remote desktop is crap as well... It blocks the supporter from entering anything into the UAC elevated windows (LogMeIn and the like has no such issues)
