Another day, another macOS restore... Honestly, these things are so unstable when you try and do anything other than browsing on them.

What does privacy mean to you?

@zanko to me privacy means having full control over the information that I share, and with whom I share it with.

@FreeTube: How does subscribing to playlists sound. I would love to see this Implemented in

@if basically, I use dnscrypt-proxy and picked a bunch of servers from their list, and have the proxy select from among them, but really, I have no idea if any of the ones that claim they’re non-logging are actually non-logging 🤷

I make sure to use several different DNS servers so no intelligence agencies feels left out when trying to spy on me

I've recently been able to get my hands on a #pinephone from the good people over at @PINE64

Would anyone be interested in a written review? I plan on trying to set this up as a daily driver and will log how close I can get to replacing my other phone. I also plan on attempting to install #FreeTube and will talk a little bit about that experience. I'm open to answering any questions someone might have as well.

There is now a Mastodon instance for publishing scientists: FediScience.

Everyone is welcome from PhD student to professor, as well as researchers from outside of academia. You are welcome to stay afterwards, but it is also easy to change to another server.

There will be a lot of science talk on this server, but there is no need to only talk science

Boosts are appreciated to let others know about this new instance.

I've just realised my positively ancient blog RSS feed is still generated via FeedBurner.

What's the best approach for providing a feed these days...?

Users need to remember that gratis use of non-datafarming online services is a gift, not a right. If we don't have the skills / resources to self-host, we depend on others who do, and we need to be actively looking for ways to give back. That might include things like donations towards hosting costs, or reporting of outages and other problems in a friendly, non-demanding way. Even just an occasional 'thanks for this awesome service, we love you' message is a good start.
