By bridging the gap between MIS and Russian roulette and splitting, we allocate a local, efficiency-guided budget to every technique automatically. We beat state-of-the-art performance in path guiding and bidirectional path tracing.

I finally got around to uploading the source code of our paper, MARS, which we will be presenting at Asia 2024.

You can now clone the repository on github and experience the efficiency gains of our multi-sample MIS budget allocation strategy yourself. We are looking forward to seeing you at !

Comparison of our sample allocation method with previous work in bidirectional path tracing. In this example, our method outperforms previous work by 65%. To the right, we visualize our sample allocation by color coding the budget allocation decisions for the different techniques (BSDF, NEE, and light path sampling).
