If you are so down the rabbit hole of being a FOSS advocate that you start gatekeeping it and telling people they should ditch their friends that aren't also fully on the FOSS train, maybe you need to reevaluate your priorities.

This shit is actually upsetting.

@ascclemens If it were all down to individual choices, the various forces (network effects, greed with powerful leverage, etc.) that drive the many disastrous outcomes that we see around us would have no power over us.

Some of us would make good decisions, and others would follow as they saw how good these decisions were.

Unfortunately, that's not the world we live in. At best, our personal good decisions can minimize the damage to ourselves, and usually not even that.

@urusan I stand up for my principles, but I also realise I have to make some compromises. Progress isn't an on/off switch, you know?

Us deciding to cut away those who aren't quite there yet and dividing ourselves up into smaller, weaker groups is exactly what those who would seek to exploit us want us to do.
