Just finished the book "Amusing Ourselves to Death." So prescient.

Since it was published in the mid 80's:

* the president has shifted from movie star to reality TV star

* the internet has joined TV as an enemy of discourse

* the continuity of thought continued its slide from page to paragraph down to sentence

And of course even my petty post about it, here, plays into the whole problem.

I'm going to go take some soma.

@typenil this was a book in my "critical thinking" class when I was in community College. Very good and important book for understanding and dealing with the world. Another is "Age of Propaganda" by Pratkanis and Aronson which I liked more.
