One thing that I have really tended towards after having gotten experienced with linux is that starting from a minimal system and building it up has been far more fruitful to me than starting with somthing full featured and then trying to remove cruft :)

@sotolf Very true. However, IMHO there's something to be said for distros that bring everything out of the box for people who don't want or can't set up everything from the ground up in KISS style.


@sotolf E.g. getting my network printer/scanner to work properly was something of a pain with Arch, on Fedora it works OOTB. Probably, I'm just not smart enough to do it by hand but this is just not the kind of issue I'm willing to spend time on.

@theDoctor I don't really use printers or scanners, I have a quite narrow line of hardware that I use with my machine, which probably aids in it being easier for me to run a really lean system.
