Does anyone have any suggestions for #videoEditing software in #Linux ? I'm on #Debian so would prefer an apt package or a .deb, but as long as it's open source and has a Linux build I'll probably be able to use it.
Note: I've already tried KDENlive, and that's what I'll use if I can't find something better, but I'm looking to see if there's anything with better performance out there, or something that can edit variable framerates without having to transcode the video first.
That being said, it's entirely possible that the performance is much better than I thought and it was a problem with my former OS or accidentally not using the GPU
@mergerg The best video editors for Linux are probably Kdenlive, Shotcut, Flowblade, Openshot and Olive video editor. For simple video editing tasks, you can use FFmpeg on the command line.
DaVinci Resolve requires a good graphics card.
@textovervideo Cool that there are so many free software GUI video editors!
Until today I was only aware of VirtualDub, Blender and Kdenlive, which all existed many years ago.
Today I had a video editing need on my company computer and I found Shotcut in my employer's intranet catalog. It solved the problem for me after some minor clicking around and some web searches to get to know the application.
@textovervideo @mergerg I use FFMPEG to split large MKV files created by Open Broadcast Studio from VHS tapes. FFMPEG works well because I can create a bash script and tweak the start and end times, then run it multiple times until I get the output files I want. It is so quick, I can barely justify a tea break...
