Hey y’all. I’m a product and project management type by day, but I’m a big fan of productivity systems, Org mode, Linux, retrocomputing of all kinds, half-learning new programming languages, and recently I’ve gotten into RPi and other small systems. I also used to work in a guitar factory and have an old Chevy truck I’m learning to keep running.
My first computer was a Mac Performa 578. My grandad taught me QBASIC. I’m excited to have found so many other nerds in the fediverse.
It would make my life slightly more pleasant if the cryptocurrency kids would please stop telling everyone they're going to rescue society by removing the need for trust.
A society that isn't based on trust is not worth living in. Replacing trust with electricity consumption is always going to be a recipe for idiocy.
Based on that previous rant, what bothers me about my productivity system: https://systemstack.dev/2021/02/streamlined-system.html

There’s something about “put everything in Org mode” that just doesn’t work for me. I find the Agenda stuff clunky, I don’t trust the files not to get messed up... there’s some kind of unified task management system yet to be built, or that maybe I just haven’t discovered, to replace all these different apps.

I haven't even looked at this "new" relaunched Trello yet, but it's already filled me with dread.
My system relies on so many apps I don't own that might go away--Todoist, Trello, OneNote, Workflowy... none of these are new apps, but they still just don't feel solid enough for me.
And yet, I still don't move to something I actually own. Too much work, too much friction. It's "if it ain't broke" except I know with all these proprietary systems, someday it's gonna break.
Finally wrote a new blog post. Why I ordered an M5Paper:

HALT AND CATCH FIRE SYLLABUS 🔥
This has been on my mind for a long time, and now it's a real thing!
Something like this is basically my dream device for managing my work. Boot directly into Org mode, save all the files on some kind of cloud storage, and always be there on my desk throughout the work day. https://hackaday.com/2021/01/17/trs-80-model-100-gets-64-bit-cpu-and-a-very-wide-lcd/
