@sunweaver unity8 was a so beautiful desktop environment and the possibility to make this available for all the debian-derivated distros is a great opportunity ! Today, ubuntu has given up unity as default so we couldn't miss the possibility to increase the access and the support of lomiri for ALL these distros ! But now for linux, not only ubuntu

And packages have nearly all landed in unstable again. Still waiting for a few (very important packages) to leave NEW. Thanks to Thorsten Alteholz for reviewing 100+ copyright files.

About suru-icon-theme: the proposal is to replace ' s suru-icon-theme (shipped via Ubuntu Themes) with ' suru-icon-theme. Feedback welcome!

Two more packages have been uploaded to 's NEW queue: lomiri-url-dispatcher and suru-icon-theme.

lomiri-app-launch (fork of ubuntu-app-launch) has new been uploaded to 's NEW queue. The progress of packaging has been paused recently, but I will give this more priority again over the next couple of weeks.

Just installed Ubuntu MATE on a second computer. I wish regular Ubuntu had this much polish. Just the welcome screen on it's own gives you a selection of curated software, the ability to change the layout to match different OSs and easy access to help.

I am unemployed. I don't believe I will be returning to academia.

If you or someone you know is looking for a high skilled, highly motivated Unix admin, technical writer, infosec consultant, or tech researcher, please get in touch. Willing to relocate anywhere (after the COVID-19 situation, of course) and work remotely in the interim.

(Please feel free to star and boost.)

What do you use for Remote Support on Linux? Is it 100% FLOSS or a compromise? Please share...

Last week, I found all packages (php-horde*) having been removed from the archive. I have spent several hours on getting a hang of the mass-packaging toolchain and will re-upload all those packages during the coming week.

You know... I like GNOME 3, but I have the same feelings for it that I have for KDE Plasma. I like Plasma 5, but I still like KDE 3 (Trinity) more. Likewise, I like GNOME 2 (Mate) more than I like GNOME 3.

And honestly, if I *had* to pick a GTK3-based DE, it'd be XFCE, not stock GNOME. I just find it to work a bit better without the intense memory needs that GNOME has now.

In case you are sitting at home and spend a lot of time calling other people like me: You might want to look into #jitsi meet. ( It is really simple to use and doesn't need accounts or desktop clients.
And in case the servers get overloaded in the next weeks, you can simply host it yourself. I wrote a quick guide that sums up how to get everything running:

Looks like the #Qt devs are using COVID-19 as an excuse to effectively make Qt proprietary software.

"last week, the company suddenly informed both the #KDE e.V. board and the KDE Free QT Foundation that the economic outlook caused by the Corona virus puts more pressure on them to increase short-term revenue. As a result, they are thinking about restricting ALL Qt releases to paid license holders for the first 12 months"

A year in the software world is eternity, may as well not release it.

Videokonferenz geplant? Bitte weder Skype noch Zoom nutzen! Beide US-Dienste haben bekanntermaßen gehörige Datenschutzmängel.

Stattdessen: Freie Software nutzen wie z.B. Jitsi!
