Did you know that on Linux you can create a file named .hidden in a directory with a list of filenames present in that directory to hide those from view even if they do not start with a dot?

I think it's dependant on the window manager, though: both Dolphin and Nautilus/Files hide files listed there, but using ls in the terminal sadly doesn't.

@steffo Got it to work! Am using Thunar / XFCE here. Thanks for this tip! Needed to close all instances of Thunar and relaunch in order to initiate hiding:
