Feelings about timelines

On mastodon/fosstodon, I feel free, rested, relaxed, and I leave timeline feeling smarter.

I don't feel anything towards twitter, it feels dead to me, except for specific there is nothing there to see

I hate LinkedIn, feels fake to me, poor people have to show off to get a job or to keep a job

I despise facebook (deleted several years ago), I literally felt the algorithm plays with my head at these days I had facebook

Never used Instagram

Feelings about timelines

@smir I'm pretty relaxed on Mastodon... Until I click on "Federated" and then the unfiltered opinions come rolling on in.

Feelings about timelines

@blucrunch I forgot about federated tab a long time ago :)

Local timeline in fosstodon is great, and I think fosstodon admins block lots of negative instances so federated timeline from here is acceptable

Feelings about timelines

@kev @smir I don't interact much on twitter for *reasons* but I get a great deal from my timeline. Lots of smart, interesting, and funny people saying smart, interesting, and funny things.

Feelings about timelines

@basil @kev , Basil, one good thing about twitter timeline is that you still have the option to keep it chronous instead of algorithmically tailored, and indeed it depends on whom you follow, but you know .. It's just the feeling.

Feelings about timelines

@smir
Never had Facebook.
On Twitter I (on purpose) decided to follow only 42 people at any time, and when something new comes up, I have to decide. Generally is interesting, but when going to the suggested/localized general timeline, it's only absolute trash.
Mastodon, here on FOSStodon, feels like home.
I'm still struggling to try finding a way to bring the tweets of the people I want to follow on Twitter, here in my FOSStodon timeline, so to get rid of Twitter.

Feelings about timelines

@AAMfP a lot of those I follow on Twitter already are blogging regularly, I then follow their blogs through RSS, which gave me access to quality writing - better than tweets

Feelings about timelines

@smir
Yep, unfortunately, many of those I follow do not blog. 😒

Feelings about timelines

@smir I would love to quit LinkedIn.. Like so much.. But you know "you have to be on there"

Feelings about timelines

@lowkeylone if only we can get linkedin profile/CV without linkedin timeline and status sharing, this would be what we need (aside from linkedin being centralized and corporate-con trolled)

Feelings about timelines

@smir I totally agree.

Feelings about timelines

@smir Instagram is weird. A few years ago my wife and I found that it made us constantly compare ourselves to the people (who we knew) and so we cut back on it a lot and reevaluated our use. Didn’t seem like good “social interaction” for us.

Feelings about timelines

@Juliusdelta yes, I didn't get the idea of sharing photo from my daily life and get likes for it! I can understand showing artistic pictures but not how or where or with whom I'm setting now.

Feelings about timelines

@smir
Feeling the same. Can’t stand anything centralized except my work account on office 365 business. (I’m the admin)
I’m trying to get started here. Convincing the family we need to start a server and seeing this , it feels like home. I just can’t believe what I’ve been missing.

Feelings about timelines

@imnotjack91 @smir I rephrase. THIS feels like my best friends home. My own server will REALLY feel like home.
