@gargron It's social media, but anyone can provide it, just like email.

Realize that the person you're talking to doesn't realize you can have email outside of Gmail.

"We learned from big tobacco how outsized interests create entire ecosystems to influence and manipulate both civil society and policymakers. Based on my experience of and encounters with the big tech platforms from inside the EU over 12 years, I have formed the view that the Brussels policy community has been, and still insidiously is, in the grip of this corporate class – the biggest the world has ever seen."
Smartphones have so many useless sensors nowadays, yet still don't have a thermometer.
Want to measure magnetic fields? Sure! Air pressure? Of course! Acceleration? Definitely! Exact orientation of the device? Sure! Heart rate? You bet! Blood oxygen saturation? Who needs a doctor when you have an app!
Air temperature? How hold on there turbo, let's not go overboard on the sensors!

Something a bit different today...
There's a really nice Fediverse admin on here called @stux who provides lots of free decentralised public services (public instances of Mastodon, PeerTube, Pixelfed, Matrix, Nitter, Invidious, Searx etc).
Stux is spending hundreds of euros a month so that these services remain free and operational.
Apparently Stux has had a tough time finding work recently, but has their own small business which provides web hosting.
If you're looking for a small indie hosting provider, this might be a really good choice as the money raised will help keep the Fedi going too:
(I'm sorry to embarass you Stux, but I think you deserve a shout-out for the good work you do!)
If you are in the EU and have not yet heard of this vote. There is a European's citizens Initiative for a Universal Basic Income. This is an EU binding vote. https://eci.ec.europa.eu/014/public/#/screen/home . There is only 5 days left and over 700,000 votes still needed. Please vote.
