I've launched a sister site called https://aus.party
Aus.party is a "Mobilizon" instance - Offers an alternative to Facebook Groups and Facebook Events!
So if you want to run public events or public groups (or migrate away from Facebook). Please consider giving it a look.
This is a "newish" service and will improve over time.
P.S. This instance is connected with https://deffo.com.au so events will be shared (run by our friends at chinwag)
Well, I officially deleted my Facebook account, today. Although I've not used it for a couple years, I've not officially flipped the switch until today. From what I understand, I have to maintain some sort of regular account in order to manage a couple pages/groups that I have so, I made a new one that's pretty sterile and deleted the old.
Feels nice to finally check that one off the ol' list of things to do. 😀
If you don't want to use Google Playstore, but need some apps from there, try Aurora Store. It does not update Fdroid Apps, it shows how many trackers the app has. No Google account needed.
If you want apps/updates from Apkmirror, Apkpure, Uptodown, or Aptoide, look at Apkgrabber. Ut handles multiple sources, and you can blacklist your Fdroid apps.
Involuntary biometric #surveillance in public spaces is an outrageous humiliation and a severe attempt to restrict personal freedom with hardly any benefits to general security ...
Please consider signing and promoting the @reclaimyourface European citizens initiative. (If enough EU citizens sign such initiatives, eu comission has to put this on their agenda!)
I just installed Tiny-Core Linux on my Raspberry Pi. This is a 64-bit system that runs completely from RAM. After boot, you could remove the SD. Boot partition size is 64MB :)
Get it from http://tinycorelinux.net/12.x/armv6/releases/RPi/
Unzip and dd image to SD.
Edit cmdline.txt on the Fat partition, add these:
showapps pause multivt kmap=qwertxxxx tz=xxx.
run "tce-ab", press 's', enter "mc", choose mc, press 'q' and 'i'.
Do the same for kmap.
Reboot, and have fun.
Good to see an article like this from someone like the ABC, https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-21/when-facebook-banned-news-australia-we-saw-role-it-plays/13175698.
“But in a country with so little civil society infrastructure, our heavy reliance on a corporation to provide such a fundamental public service is deeply problematic.
Facebook, Inc. doesn't care about your fundraiser or political protest.
It couldn't care less about your art exhibition.”
I don't often link to Twitter statuses, because.... Twitter, but this one was funny. I'll quote so you don't have to click the link, but you can if you want to.

Gemini browsers for Android:
One surprise to me today is #Tor isn’t blocked in the network of my office. socks proxy is no longer needed , yay!
Why anybody would want spyware at their front door is beyond me
You really do not need a Google account to use an Android phone or tablet.
I have been doing that as long as I use Android, for about 10 years now.
You can get apps per Browser from fdroid.org, apkmirror.com, apkpure.com, and from Playstore via apkleecher.com.
You can use one or more of these apps to get apps comfortably:
You cannot use paid apps from Playstore, but you get quite a few from their publisher, like Threema.
