@takesama A gentle nudge on this.

@ru @takesama I second this. Aggregating public data still requires the consent of the author. Simply taking the data just because it's public is not consent at all. It would be nice if your bot respected the tag, but I'd argue that's the least you could do.

@dusnm @ru @takesama what's the point of this service? Is it that you want to be able to follow users without them knowing they've followed you?

Apart from that, I don't see any advantage of a bot which isn't already taken care of by ActivityPub.

If this is indeed the case, I guess a follow from the Takesama bot essentially means "you are potentially being followed by one or more users of the Takesama app, and we won't tell you who"

🧐

@ru@fosstodon.org @takesama@takesama.com I’m not even sure what the point of this is. If you want to see other posts from a new person on your timeline, just … click over? I don’t get it at all. Why is this bot even necessary?

@fyrfli What they're trying to solve is the "empty profile" issue that plagues Mastodon (at least). Person exists, has been posting for years, but when you on your instance open it, it seems like it's a ghost town because the two instances haven't really formed a complete federated relationship.

Hi, sorry for late response. When we were implementing this bot we were just following ActivityPub’s specification and forgot to consider unwritten rules (which shouldn’t happen and is our fault). Since we became aware of the issue (thank you very much) we fixed our implementation on 2023-01-23 15:55 UTC, so new users with #nobot or #nobots won’t be followed. Within 24-48h we plan to publish a fix that will unfollow users that we already followed with the #nobot tag and publish a clarification about this issue on our website

@takesama Great to hear!

Edit: Where is the blog? I can't find a link on your profile or on your website.

hi, it’s not a blog post but rather a note at the top of our whitepaper that the bot is linking to. It should be easier to find it if it’s not hidden somewhere on a different page, but kept in the same place
