@nixchick Wow, that's a salutary tale!
@karan No, I hadn't really looked at it before. Will have a peek at them now.
Yay, finally managed to cancel my monthly donaton to my previous Mastodon instance I no longer use. Now I can donate to #Fosstodon instead!
@karan Useful article, thanks. I still buy music on CD where I can, so I own it outright, then rip it to FLAC for use on my devices.
Big accomplishment this evening: finally removed all documents and personal info from #google drive.

Next step is review https://nomoregoogle.com/ to see what other Google products I'm forgetting.
@jlj I hadn't realised that but you are right. Images of text are a nightmare for accessibility (hardly anybody alt-tags them), and they're so garish and in-your-face. Nice to get away from there in here!
I really like the toot feed I get from people I follow. I also like the instance feed. The global feed not that much since it's chaos 😀 I like that you can simply block an annoying bot/reposter-maniac and continue enyoing the content. Don't remember being on a such well self-curated platform ever. Also people are nice and helpful no matter what topic discussed. Kudos to all of you making it a welcome place! 👋
@patcoll Well done, Pat. I tried a few years ago but gave up. Keep meaning to have another go!
@stchris That didn't take long!
@BalooUriza Handy link, thanks. I'd not see that site before. Looked at my local town and cleared most of the fixes already!
@chartonjeremiah I feel your pain. The other day I updated some software, pinned it to the taskbar, whereupon Windows deleted all my existing taskbar icons irretreivably. Never a dull moment!
@motive I use Brave as my second browser. It covers things where I need a Chromium browser instead of Firefox, but without the Google tie-in of Chrome.
@neildarlow You could have ended that last paragraph at issues! 😉
@ataraxia937 I came at them via the record label 4AD. I was a big Cocteau Twins fan and Throwing Muses signed to the same label in the UK. The Real Romana was the first album I bought of theirs, and have never looked back since!
Of all the free music I've found on the internet, http://50footwave.cashmusic.org/power+light/ has to be my favorite. It's not metal this time, try it out. Kristin Hersh is a rock goddess.
Fosstodon is an English speaking Mastodon instance that is open to anyone who is interested in technology; particularly free & open source software.
