This time on the podcast, @dos from @purism talks about his Die Hard GNU/Linux User On Phones life. How he's developing lots of great things for Phoc/Phosh, the Librem 5 and how he implemented his personal dream of shrinking windows that he had since the Openmoko days.

Just dropped my phone for the 256th time and the glass finally cracked. Looks pretty bad, there are splinters coming out, etc.

Guess it's finally time to move on. I had a Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge which served me surprisingly well for five years (thanks to /e/ OS from @efoundation for the software support while it lasted).

Anyway, I just ordered a from @shiftphones. Super excited! The recent @postmarketOS news definitely influenced my decision:

hey hey, the SDM845 kernel fork in @postmarketOS just got upgraded to 5.19 😎

Finally adding speaker support for the 6T and enabling the OnePlus 6 notification LED! Let me know if you've given it a spin

after literally 6000 lines of code, I finally figured out how to get Android to detect a SIM card

no, no it can't connect to mobile data... yet

This is with mainline and a completely open source userspace stack on the @oneplus 6

#superd 0.5 has been released with a large pile of fixes and improvements. thank you @anjan and @stacyharper for all of the testing and feedback this round!!

Some thoughts on 's approach to community-developed hardware products. Could have been shorter, but a bit of background was necessary

Samsung Galaxy Tab 9.7" and postmarketOS: building a custom image

Part 2 of my adventure of installing @postmarketOS on a 2015 tablet. I built some custom images (easy!) to have full disk encryption, and experimented with different desktop environments.

A bit of a ramble on how I use @postmarketOS as a powerful development platform for phones. Plus bonus native intellisense support for C/C++ in AOSP with vscode

connolly.tech/posts/2022_07_20

here's a demo and overview of the state of mainline on the right now, I haven't tested the modem but mobile data and SMS should work. It'll be in @postmarketOS soon!

I just realized something neat:

tl;dr: it's easy to add a recovery image

now that the #librem5 can boot from SD card with #postmarketOS, it's much harder for me to "brick" my phone. yay!

I can keep an install of pmOS on the SD card, that can be booted if I break the main install on eMMC. and from there, I can fix the main install.

I can do all of this without having to touch the SD card because the #librem5 will always boot from eMMC. holding Vol- will tell u-boot to load things from SD.
