I put my #iPhone13 and my #Pixel5a side-by-side to compare which had a better, more accurate compass. I then removed my magnetic desk decoration, so it wouldn't affect the results. While removing it, I saw the Pixel's compass swing but, strangely, not the iPhone's. More experimentation revealed that no amount of magnet-maneuvering would affect the iPhone's compass.
If Apple shielded their magnet somehow, it wouldn't detect the Earth's magnetic field. Does it work without magnets? 🤔
Why GPL? "Using the GNU GPL will require that all the released improved versions be free software. This means you can avoid the risk of having to compete with a proprietary modified version of your own work." More at https://u.fsf.org/3kr
This #Datalog tutorial is amazing!
http://www.learndatalogtoday.org/
It's interactive, too, which is the best way to learn: learn by doing.
When I was reading it yesterday, I was having more fun than I thought, and I was disappointed that there weren't any more lessons after I finished the tutorial.
Am I a Datalog expert now? Probably 😉
I've decided to use a basic, local index #HTML file as my browser's start page. I can't believe I haven't done this since before #Google 's iGoogle product—I forgot! Because I'm spatially-oriented, a clean page where the elements are consistently placed is much better for my brain than a list of bookmarks.
I'd love to see common-place HTML literacy like we began to see when #MySpace was popular. We need a #socialmedia platform that allows adding web code to your profile to "accessorize" it.
I've been using #Docker extensively for the last few weeks to provide CI/CD for our developers. It is such a great and a tool, and one that I would have studied immediately if I understood its true value beforehand.
#ipfs is so stinkin' cool
I just realized that I've never formally introduced myself on @fosstodon.org...
Hello, everyone! 😄
I press buttons for a living in as a #sysops engineer. Though, working for a #startup means I actually do a bit of everything (as those "in the know" will attest!).
Currently, I live in the US but I will be moving to Finland as soon as possible.
It'd be great to meet like-minded people who are equally enthusiastic about computing, so hit me up if you ever want to chat.
@stujr @adamsdesk when your boss is too cheap to have developers and sysadmins.
