When I started my current job, my coworkers remarked that the command I run to login as 'root' is strange.

I have always used `sudo su` because it was the first way I learned how to do it back when I started learning Linux in '04, and I haven't had a reason to switch.

Do you do it differently?

I put my and my side-by-side to compare which had a better, more accurate compass. I then removed my magnetic desk decoration, so it wouldn't affect the results. While removing it, I saw the Pixel's compass swing but, strangely, not the iPhone's. More experimentation revealed that no amount of magnet-maneuvering would affect the iPhone's compass.

If Apple shielded their magnet somehow, it wouldn't detect the Earth's magnetic field. Does it work without magnets? 🤔

Why GPL? "Using the GNU GPL will require that all the released improved versions be free software. This means you can avoid the risk of having to compete with a proprietary modified version of your own work." More at u.fsf.org/3kr

Always do your best. Your best will change from day to day.

I feel awful for those that make a living on still. We must be very close to its inevitable collapse if my YT recommendations are even somewhat indicative of the platform's quality as a whole. I even pay them, and I'm still blasted with ads. Long live ?

What is the point of having screenshot functionality in if seemingly every app is able to (and does!) block it by default? I'm trying to screenshot the outage in my area; what could possibly justify that un-feature in this app?

This tutorial is amazing!

It's interactive, too, which is the best way to learn: learn by doing.

When I was reading it yesterday, I was having more fun than I thought, and I was disappointed that there weren't any more lessons after I finished the tutorial.

Am I a Datalog expert now? Probably 😉

I'm using my free time this weekend to study because I want to get the most out of the note-taking app I use extensively as a "second-brain", .

I've decided to use a basic, local index file as my browser's start page. I can't believe I haven't done this since before 's iGoogle product—I forgot! Because I'm spatially-oriented, a clean page where the elements are consistently placed is much better for my brain than a list of bookmarks.

I'd love to see common-place HTML literacy like we began to see when was popular. We need a platform that allows adding web code to your profile to "accessorize" it.

I've been using extensively for the last few weeks to provide CI/CD for our developers. It is such a great and a tool, and one that I would have studied immediately if I understood its true value beforehand.

I'm back from a brief hiatus!

Do you think more people will jump ship if Musk actually buys bird-site? If so, it might be a good time to remind our friends about Mastodon 😁

Lots of people are responding saying I shouldn't get an iPhone. Are there any android versions that have similar privacy features?

I'm becoming increasingly upset about Google and how they're really ramping up their "evilness". I've therefore decided to de-Google my personal life, within reason.

Has anyone else made the switch from Android to iPhone? What was your experience like?

That after nearly two decades in this field, I'm still learning more every day. It is strange, though, that the more I learn the more I realize how little I actually know. The knowledge is endless; like zooming in on a fractal.

I just realized that I've never formally introduced myself on @fosstodon.org...

Hello, everyone! 😄

I press buttons for a living in as a engineer. Though, working for a means I actually do a bit of everything (as those "in the know" will attest!).

Currently, I live in the US but I will be moving to Finland as soon as possible.

It'd be great to meet like-minded people who are equally enthusiastic about computing, so hit me up if you ever want to chat.

@stujr @adamsdesk when your boss is too cheap to have developers and sysadmins.

I've started getting a ton of spam messages a day via files shared with me through Google Drive. Anyone else dealing with this?

Google better figure something out because there doesn't seem to be a way to disable sharing.
