It’s interesting to watch the #Unity licensing change cluster-fluff unfold. It feels, to me, like a Birdsite -> Mastodon Elon level, migration opperunity to get folk onto an open source engine like @godotengine

Personally I’m interested in exploring #godotengine for Automotive use to support our work at @snappautomotive, because open source solutions give our customers an easy path to verifying the core technologies we use to build #SnappOS

Truly, is the only way the user / customer can make sure, they won't be just left with no support if suddenly the software vendor goes under / gets taken over by aliens.

@nicemicro @alsutton

It's because Proprietary software's entire organisational principle is to carve out incompatible monopoly fiefdoms free from government oversights and market forces.

People think open source is some hippie commune thing, but it's really not. It hews far closer to free trade open markets where you can pick and choose your support separate from your supplier at every level.

It's difficult to make a living doing open source, but it's fair to the consumer.

@doctormo @alsutton Exactly. On my part, I always viewed and open source as an aspect of consumer protection.

I might not be interested in how Coke is made, as long as I can know it contains what it says it contains. In case of software, I also want to be able to check it does exactly what it does on my PC, and just like I like to chose which meal I drink my Coke with, I also want to mix and match my software solutions to my exact taste as much as possible.
