FSF, RMS

I've had some thoughts on the current situation. Too much for the character limit here, though.

re: FSF, RMS

@murph before drop something better to have a replacement, do you have something in mind to replace current leader ?

re: FSF, RMS

@sss I have a problem with RMS getting appointed to the board. If he is in any position of power, many will see him as a defacto head of the organization, regardless of who is in any other positions.

re: FSF, RMS

@murph from my point of view he is not worst possible leader, but unlike you are, i have not met him in person...

FSF, RMS

@murph well said. Thank you for sharing.

FSF, RMS

@murph You have seen him, so you know more than I do, but being identified as something you are not has been a cause of discussion for years. Be it gender, be it religion, be it race.
I can see why being mistaken with support of Open source is a true reason to be angry.
Open source code can be applied to malicious software.
If you believe in free software, you want your code to be libre, and you don't want it to be used to enslave others. That's what open source allows, why they differ.

@joeligj12 @murph I recall a particular (sneakily recorded and uploaded) video of him reacting poorly to a set of circumstances regarding his speech, in where he wondered of giving his speech at all would be "hopeless", and wondered what would be "the point" of it all. Might that be the specific speech that was attended? Or was that another similar talk altogether?

FSF, RMS

@vancha @joeligj12 Sounds familiar, but I'd have to see it to be more sure.

FSF, RMS

@murph Well said. I am very torn between the enormous debt of gratitude that we all owe to RMS and the way he is judged by now.

I am sure that the very traits that made it possible for him to stick up for free software, his subborness and his stickling for details are the very same traits that got him into hot water now. I totaly agree to what he said about MM, but I think that other things he allegedly said and did are rightly criticised.

@murph Don't throw a person to the street just because of an opinion.

FSF, RMS

@Coneng I never suggested such a thing. I just don't think that he is the right person to lead the FSF any more. The board is responsible for this.

FSF, RMS

@murph he is not leading. Last I know he is in the board. He was forced to resign from MIT. So it basically means he is being thrown to the street.

FSF, RMS

@Coneng As the founder, if he is in any leadership position, he would end up as a defacto leader of the FSF.
Anything regarding MIT is outside of anything I have influence over. I didn't advocate for him losing that position, nor could I. I don't support MIT. I do support FSF, so I feel that I can express an opinion about it.
