Oh wow, Steve Klabnik (author of book and core team member) is leaving Mozilla.

Key quote:
> I could say a lot of things here, but I won’t get into the details. What’s really important is this: I’m not proud to be a Mozillian anymore.

I've heard some negative things about Mozilla lately, but this is something that personally moves the needle in a anti-mozilla direction more than, e.g., ads on the new-tab page

Happy Monday all. I hope you had a great weekend!

It's been a bloodbath at work this week. Wow. Two of my team of 5 left today (moving on to other opportunities) and a good friend of mine was fired Wednesday. I'm starting to feel like an endangered species here.

Working in a small department as one of the few people dealing with server software, I rarely actually TALK to people about technology. Because of that, I'm always self conscious about whether or not I'm pronouncing things correctly. Kubernetes? Is that "koo-ber-neets?", or "kub-er-nets?", or "koo-ber-net-es?" I don't know. I'm going to sound like an idiot.

I don't doubt the government shutdown makes for a convenient excuse. I have a sneaking suspicion that Pai would have come up with something else if this one weren't so readily available.

I've been thinking fondly of older technology lately. Usenet, Gopher, and IRC have been in my thoughts a lot. They've faded into the background of the Internet for the most part, but I feel like there's still opportunity to bring them back in a meaningful way.

I had to scrape my windows this morning. It was so weird.

It's 5:26AM on January 1st, 2019. I got my first on-call support call of the year. NOT an auspicious start.

@fribbledom Another handy one is running "gpio readall" on the pi itself! It even auto-detects what model it is.

I've said this already today, but since it's official here now, I'd like to wish everybody here a Happy 2019! I wish nothing but the best in the upcoming year for all of you.

Preaching to the choir here, but decentralization is important!!

It's 3:25PM, I've been working since 8:00AM, and I've just finished going through my back email since before Christmas. Productivity at it's finest.

Hey, my name's Jesse. I'm a programmer working mostly in frontend codebases. My passion is making real time data sync easy for peer to peer apps, but people don't pay me for that. It's just a hobby.
Also a bit introverted/people shy.

I don't know if "Predictions" articles are more fun looking forward at what might be, or looking back at how badly the future was predicted.
