One of my favorite features of the new QGIS 3.26 is definitely "Select features from expression based symbols". It saved me a lot of work this week.

As the tooltip points out, it's because #OpenStreetMap is powering Apple Maps (in lots, but not all, places), and #OSM is actually pretty good.

:boost_ok: :ablobcatwave: Please boost this post if you would like the EFF to join the fediverse. :ablobcatbongo:

In a survey the EFF sent me, I suggested they create an account on the fediverse, so they can reach more supporters and support innovative free software that promotes interoperability among platforms, something they've advocated for in the past, too.

If you can boost this post, maybe I'll be able to show them that there are quite a few users who would like them here!

The EFF is the infamous nonprofit organisation that fights for privacy, government transparency, and digital freedom. Their fight is very important, and the EFF is very special to me. https://www.eff.org/about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Frontier_Foundation

You can see some of their work here https://www.eff.org/work

In the meantime, you can follow @eff, which is an unofficial mirror of their Twitter.

As one of the main Mastodon developers, I can't promise you that Mastodon will be a complete and exact Twitter replacement for you, but it may fit your use-cases, at least it does for me.

Just keep in mind that it is not exactly the same thing, some core design decisions are different (there isn't an unique centrally-governed website, but many interconnected servers operated by different individuals and organizations) and thus the tradeoffs can be different as well.

While I personally don't think Mastodon should aim at being an exact replacement to Twitter, I do hope Mastodon can be useful to more people wanting an alternative to Twitter! And I know there are lots of room for improvement, on things we do know, and on things we don't.

Also keep in mind that Mastodon is developed by only two core developers payed through a non-profit funded through sponsorship, grants and donations, so please be patient!

day 30: Metamapping day. bboxes of all my 2021 maps for the 30 Day Mapping Challenge.

@wizzwizz4 That's EPSG:3857 WGS84/Pseudomercator. One of the worst available ;-)

day 29: NULL. A line between NULL Island and the centroid of every country in the world. A map with NULL value. Country data by Natural Earth.

day 28: The earth is not flat. I took a flat map from Natural Earth and made it into a globe in QGIS. I finished it with some small retouching around the poles in GIMP.

day 27: Heatmap. Distribution of Google and Mapillary images in Antwerpen compared.

day 24: Historical. Comparing forests in Flanders in 1775 and 2018. Data from Digitaal Vlaanderen.

day 23: GHSL. I removed the buildings from an orthophoto using the European Settlement Map from GHSL.
