Howdy!
Made an AI to track and analyse every websites, a bit like a web crawler, to find and identify ads.
It is a list containing over 600 000 domains used by ads, trackers, miners, malwares, and much more!
I made this post this morning, and I'd like to make a followup: https://functional.cafe/@loke/105813174834542090
I'd like to ask people here if anyone know of a good use-case for 5G. Something that would be an actual, measurable improvement compared to today.
So far I have only heard a single one, and that is that supposedly latency will be much better, making online gaming possible. What kind of latency can I expect to see?
Other than the ability to play fortnite on mobile (which, as far as I understand, people already do?), in what way is 5G actually going to be real gamechanger on the level of what marketing is claiming it will be?

Call for #contribution
(https://policyreview.info/node/1541) for the #Glossary of #decentralised #technosocial systems (https://policyreview.info/glossary) - a project aimed at building a shared vocabulary on the social, technical,
economic, political aspects of decentralised, distributed or sovereign technologies.
We invite contributions on the emancipatory, counter-hegemonic, subversive potential of digital technologies at the intersection of
computer science, law philosophy, social sciences. The Glossary is a long-term collaborative project which will keep evolving over time,
enriched periodically with more terms and open to new contributors. Its scope is to build a foundational vocabulary for academic and
non-academic discourse on technologies, sociotechnical systems and practices of decentralisation.
We invite proposals for new terms in the form of short abstracts (max. 200 words) to be later developed into a short glossary entry. The
compiled entries will be collected in a special section of the Internet Policy Review. (https://policyreview.info/)

People getting annoyed because Mastodon is not an advertising platform for influencers, in another "Mastodon is crumbling again" style article.

Being unsuitable for advertising, and avoiding the shallow nonsense of Twitter is the better way forward. The more that irritates neoliberals, the more it's a sign that something is working.

♲ @craigmaloney@octodon.social: OK, time for me to make an apology.
I hadn't used XMPP for quite a while. While I liked it last time I used it there were issues keeping connections and the clients were less than stellar.
While the desktop clients for Linux are still a little shaky I can recommend Quicksy (thank you @Array for the recommendation).
I've been crabby when people recommend XMPP because I didn't realize that folks have taken XMPP from an early 21st century protocol to a joy to use.
