We've just received our first patches to the experimental mellium-devel mailing list! If you prefer the git-am flow like we do, head over and review them! lists.sr.ht/~samwhited/mellium

(also, let us know what you think, we're still looking for a new code forge and may or may not stick with the mailing list vs. a PR approach)

The Office Hours today will be a demo of our recent ad-hoc commands support in Mellium. We'll use it to draw some configuration forms for popular XMPP service and discuss some of the problems with the specs we ran into. Join us at 1600 UTC!

We also just put a live demo on the calendar for the Office Hours! Join us on Tuesday, June 1st for a quick demo of ad-hoc commands, TUI forms, and a discussion of the spec and how it can be improved. More info: wiki.xmpp.org/web/XMPP_Office_

We've just comitted an implementation of "XEP-0050: Ad-Hoc Commands" and a TUI example of using them to draw forms. This makes Mellium useful for configuring bots and bridges!

The time is now!

Looks like there will be no Office Hours tomorrow unless someone wants to sign up at the last minute? Demos, talks, round table discussions, or anything else you think it would be useful for the community to know are welcome!

Very excited to announce that DAPSI will be funding user account data export and migration in and ! This project will give people more control over their data and ensure they are never locked into a specific XMPP provider.

A couple of months ago I wrote a post about #Signal's user-first approach being part of the inspiration for @snikket_im

I praised Signal for this focus, but cautioned about their centralization of infrastructure and governance.

I didn't expect it to become relevant quite so soon 😞

This week confirmed that 1) Signal does not develop their code in the open 2) they are integrating in-app payments via a new privately-held cryptocurrency that the founder is involved with.
