Much of the fediverse is public, with mastodon very much being so. Surveillance companies could still monitor most mastodon instances and track people across websites. Perhaps the lack of ads on these platforms removes their incentive to track us.

@mcol I think the lack of ads makes this space very boring for tracking and surveillance, there isn't much money purely in tracking. But tracking for companies, that pays well.

@cavaliertusky It sure does seem that way. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I feel like platforms such as mastodon are too good to be true in terms of lack of tracking :p
