"I’m curious if the pressure (the growth imperative) has set in. How do you prepare your team for battle?"

There's no battle. We won't change what works. We grow organically by taking it one day at a time and by de-Googling one site at a time. We just need time and patience.

@markosaric
Stay the course, grow one customer at a time and please don't fall into the VC trap. Your project is too important to let VC kill it.

@pixelcode someone i admire :) fan of their products (HEY and Basecamp) and their book Rework is my favorite business book ever

@markosaric Careful, don’t get too political now… (lost so much respect for those folks with that one move. Still using Hey but that’s about it.)

@aral thanks for sharing! i use Hey too. their book Rework is something i read 10 years ago and it has been a great inspiration to me in how i'm thinking about this saas world. don't know much about the politics thing

@markosaric In a nutshell: the politics thing should be a case study in what not to do as a small business if you care about social justice.

@markosaric (And yeah, they were personal heroes too. Even had David on Small is Beautiful right before they pulled that move. I’ve learned not to have heroes… or at least be very careful about it) :)

@markosaric

This was the controversy. And yes, it was painful to read about as it was going down:

That said... is Hey worth it? I need to make a move regarding my email hosting pretty soon.

@aral

@axbom @aral the design / workflow is very unique compared to the other email services that i have used so as long as you're willing to give their approach a shot i think you'll like it. we started using it for CS as it has some nice collaborative features and i liked it so much that i ended up with a personal account too. makes managing the inbox fun again to me
