Google Search revenue down 9.8% year over year, dropping by $2.3 billion to $21.32 billion for Q2. This means that Alphabet reported its first revenue decline in history (2% decline). Cloud, YouTube still doing well.

Pandemic and the advertiser "boycott" cannot stop Facebook! Daily users increased 12% year over year to 1.79 billion. Monthly users across all Facebook apps up 14% to 3.14 billion. Revenue up 11% to $18.69 billion.

Yet another reason to stick with my boycott of Amazon

@markosaric does YouTube still make a loss? I always thought that is was a money pit for Google.

@kev @markosaric

Looks like nobody is really quite sure... but given how hard they've pushed things like their paid subscription and since that Adpocalypse debacle, I'd guess they're probably close if not already profitable.

@jbauer @kev i would say so but yeah it's difficult to know. i assume we'll hear more about youtube in the future if search continues the decline (too early to say whether this was caused by the pandemic only or a more general trend...)
