Anyone have any good alternatives to ExpressVPN or any criticisms of it? I have looked into self hosting a VPN but it looked like a lot of trouble.
@lyndon Why? There are scripts for automatic setting vpn/proxy. If still want to use ready-made solution, you can give a try to cloudflare vpn: https://1.1.1.1/
@lyndon I've used Private Internet Access for a few years now, and have had a good experience.
@lyndon Express is the best I have used so far. Their lightway protocol is fast and reliable, while their RAM-only servers provide peace of mind. Additionally, their Linux app is terminal-based with a browser plugin for easy control (if users dont spend most of their time in terminal).
@JodiFOSSter Okay, good to know. I have been using them for a few years just wondered about alternatives given the price and trying to move away from using larger companies.
@lyndon I like AirVPN. Don't know about ExpressVPN though.
@lyndon Depending on your use case.... I have used. VPS to host Wireguard and OpenVPN. Worked well on the smallest VPS. Currently I use Wireguard to my house when I'm out. I don't use a VPN while home.
@lyndon mullvadVPN is my first choice at the moment. They don't demand any information, accept cryptocurrencies, had no problems in the last 4-5 months (surfing with 180 Mbps). OpenVPN config for Linux, Android client for my smartphone.
I hate ExpressVPN and NordVPN for their false promises in their ads. Pure fear-mongering.
