LINux on MOBile

If anyone is wondering whether the ASUS Flip C101p is my Pro + Keyboard replacement: In some use cases, maybe — but it lacks 4G and, comparatively, is a freaking giant:

@insl Definitively! According to official websites, the difference is less than what it feels like: C101p 15.6 mm, PP keyboard 21.5 mm.

@linmob What's the device in the middle of the left pic? 👀

@linmob how is Linux support on the P8 mini laptop? I found most of these small devices have vertical screens and use software rotation which causes a lot of issues

@swisscheese Yeah, it has a vertical screen and ... when you connect an external display, good luck ever turning that internal screen back on. My best guess so far is that the display needs a proper driver, it's really not much fun. nomodeset makes it more reliable, but also slower. I don't even know if it works better with Windows, I bought it without an SSD and thus did not try it with the copy of Windows these otherwise come with.

@linmob Looks awesome! Do you like it?

On related news, I heard that Pine64 won't manufacture the PinePhone keyboard 😢

@Shatur The P8? I would like to, but the experience so far has been worse than PPP + Keyboard, see fosstodon.org/@linmob/11226600

So they discontinue the PinePhone Keyboard? Any source/chats I can read up on?

@linmob I read about it in the PinePhone chat. Search for "The keyboard is not in stock, and I assume not produced anymore for good reasons".

I personally hope that they bring keyboard back to stock because it improves the usability a lot.

@Shatur Thanks! Funeral is a good moderator, but I doubt they have inside info. I agree that it would be a loss, although I would appreciate Keyboard v2 with revised, more reliable main board and a better indication (led?) regarding "is this charging the device". (Also: backlit keys would be awesome, making it more generic (beyond PinePhone, by adding BT for keyboard and USB charging) would be lovely, and I would happy to pay way more for just a more reliable keyboard.) @linmob @PINE64 @pine64eu I agree, I would also pay more for a better keyboard.
