Still using OpenOffice? It has unfixed security issues over a year old: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_OpenOffice#Security – So all users are strongly recommended to update to one of the actively maintained successor projects, like LibreOffice. (Please share and help raise awareness about this!)
@libreoffice I still have to remind that it’s not really maintained anymore for more than 10 years (!!!) to people…
@TritTriton @libreoffice It’s a sad reminder that Oracle really screws up everything it touches. Did they donate the IP and code to the original fork made up of a lot of OOo developers? No, they gave it to Apache that literally did the equivalent of “uhhhhh… thanks?” and didn’t really want it.
@travis @TritTriton @libreoffice In this case, Apache is to blame just as much, if not more. They completely refuse to be cooperative and do anything about the situation.
@zilti @TritTriton @libreoffice Yep. Honestly, I would just love to see the project officially ended at this point so it can end with some dignity. I don’t know why Apache keeps dragging it along. Just take it out back and put it out of its misery.
@travis @zilti @TritTriton We don't know why the Apache Foundation keeps serving it to users either, despite the vulnerabilities. Try contacting press@apache.org and asking why it isn't in the Attic despite unfixed security holes over a year old – would be interesting to see what they say!
@libreoffice @zilti @TritTriton Done. I’ll publish if/when I hear back.
@travis Looks like your email was forwarded to their dev@ list, and there they are accusing you of being a "sock puppet", ie a fake account: https://www.mail-archive.com/dev@openoffice.apache.org/msg46342.html – How awful, that they can't take any feedback and accuse you of being a liar.
@libreoffice Wow, I shouldn't have to dig up old emails from 2004/2005 to prove I was a member of the project. I just lost all respect I had for the Apache Software Foundation as a whole. And when people complain about "open source being bad," well, Exhibit A right there. I have much more respect for The Document Foundation and LibreOffice now. You guys are awesome.
