New features and improvements coming to #LibreOffice 24.8, our next major release, due in August! For Writer (our word processor), Calc (spreadsheet), Impress (presentations) and Draw (diagrams and layout). More details at https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/24.8 #foss #opensource #news
What is the difference between 7.6 and 24.8.
What I'm really asking is, "should I install 24.2 as a user or stay with 7.6." FYI: I like to experiment and mess around with new features I discover in Writer/Calc.
@TopKnot The difference is that LibreOffice 24.2 is newer and has all of these extra features: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs9pMn4cffs – So yes, we recommend it
Thanks. I will download 24.2 and look forward to experimenting and learning.
Unpopular / controversial opinion:
Everybody and their dog is integrating AI features into their software. Are there some ideas for LO in that direction? Like connecting to AIs running locally or on other computers?
Some meaningful features (IMHO):
- Summarizing documents.
- Rewriting marked text (e.g. in easy language).
- Finding mistakes and suggesting corrections.
- Help assistant: How do I ... ; In column C, I want to ...
- Unobtrusive help suggestions (Clippy, but in good.)
@AxelStieglbauer Hi! Some people in the community are working on an extension (which is purely optional, of course): https://extensions.libreoffice.org/en/extensions/show/41988
Thank you for the info. The extension looks interesting, bit I want to keep my data on my local machines and not feed them to OpenAI (or any other cloud AI provider). Perhaps an interface can be made with different implementation for different AIs.
Please keep this an optional extra.
By default no data should be taken elsewhere. Not even "summary usage" data.
That will be an advantage for LO.
