Pinned post

Hey everyone! Libera has been running a little more than a month now. With the dust settled, we've written another blogpost looking at not just the what but the how (and how many) of what we've been doing.

We just crossed 100 man-days of accumulated staff on call time. Neat!

On libera, `/stats p` shows the list of staff who are available to support you. It can be a good port of call if you need staff specific help.

The fastest way is usually , but we understand that there are some questions that need an authoritative or privileged response.

Hey everyone. Our latest blog covering what we've been up to the last month is out. It covers some of the guides and docs we've been working on, as well as some behind the scenes stuff we do to keep the servers healthy.

You can find it here: libera.chat/news/just-over-100

Hope you're all having a good weekend!

Moved the @mediagoblin IRC to libera.chat. Extraordinary work by the @liberachat staff to rebuild such important community infrastructure!

People usually consider IRC an online only medium, so it's nice to see us mentioned in the Real World!
Thanks to @fsf for the mention in this months newsletter.

We're introducing a nickname expiration policy change to help free up some disused nicks a bit faster than usual. It's called the "two week two hour" rule and it will start being enforced at 12 noon UTC this Friday (25th); see more here git.io/JnDzg

If you have used your account at any point later than 2h after registration, this policy change does not affect your account or any grouped nicks.

Hey #awk squad: we're on @liberachat now, FYI. irc://irc.libera.chat:6697/#awk

C'mon by!

Just went and registered my usual nick on #liberachat. I don't hang out on #irc very much, but it's a good place to go when you have questions.

The FSF and GNU are moving their official IRC channels to the Libera.chat network. Read more about the transition and rationale for our decision: u.fsf.org/3em

A tale of two IRC networks:

#Freenode: kicked us out of our channels, harassed one of our ops on their home page, made supposedly "draft" policy changes to permit hate speech

#LiberaChat: participated in *our* forum to address questions about governance and non-profit structure and asked for feedback on improvements: <meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php>

Hmm 🤔

Some big news to round off the trifecta of our IRC gateways: our matrix bridge is now available! You can connect to foo:libera.chat where is the channel.

A big thanks to @matrix for their support - we know a lot of our communities view Matrix access as a big deal!

RIGHT! It’s beta, but we have a Matrix bridge up for @liberachat@twitter.com: you can connect to #foo:libera.chat where #foo is the channel. Huge thanks to the team for letting us expose the network on Matrix! We are also working through fixing the bridge bug backlog :)

Hi fedi, glad to have some more news for you. Today we've launched our webchat and Tor onion services.

Webchat is available at: web.libera.chat/

And information on connection via Tor is available here: libera.chat/guides/connect#acc

Please note: Tor requires an existing account with CertFP/ECDSA challenge configured.

We know that these gateways, and Matrix, are a big deal to some projects, so I hope we can continue to welcome projects and hopefully we have news about Matrix tomorrow!

One week:
Registered users: 24843
Registered channels: 11191
Current global users 20000

Hopefully some more news for you today.

Libera is a week old, and we've come strong out the blocks. Thank you to our 20,000 users for your support, enthusiasm, and patience.

I've written a little about our first week and some of the projects we host here: libera.chat/news/one-week-of-l
