I've been flopping around the internet looking for better hosting, but it hasn't gone well so far.

Any ideas?

Can any of the fine people that I follow recommend a managed WordPress host please?

Must be:
✅ Fast (cache all the things)
✅ Use a CDN
✅ Include SSL
✅ Backups included

Getting sick of managing my own infrastructure...

Sooo I just bought a new motorbike. Need to break the news to my wife now. 😳

You know what really grinds my gears? When people use “” in place of “home” to be funny.

E.g. “there’s no place like” or “stay at”.

You’re not saying “stay at home” you’re saying “stay at yourself”. You sound silly, please stop doing it. 😁

My dog, Tia (t-bone), thinks that if she stays completely still when we get ready to go for a walk, we will get out quicker. Always makes me laugh. 😂😂

@JoeRess @8none1 @felimwhiteley @degville BTW, this was JUST published. I’m not some kind of crazy stalker, I’m a Patreon supporter so get notified. 😂

The Late Night Linux gents (@JoeRess @8none1 @felimwhiteley & @degville) have published their thoughts on (and Mastodon in general). I personally thought a lot of what they said was fair. I particularly liked Joe’s point around the fact there’s no algorithm at work here. We’re not trying to keep people online.

I also liked the G+ analogy; again, I agree. What do you folks think?

I was thinking on how to respond to another toot tonight, and it caused me to think about Linux as a competitive desktop option.

And I think that it will never make it to desktop stardom because of business. FOSS developers spend so much time reinventing the wheel because wheel XYZ doesn't it do it for them, but no time on the tools that regular users need. For example: There are so many window managers that there's a top 20 list ( Yet there is no decent PDF editor.

Please, please, please, don't make things look like links if they're not links! These attractive pink underlined words look like they lead to juicy info about the presentations at this conference, but in reality they aren't even clickable!

Something a bit different on my blog…story time. This time I talk you through the time I was run over twice in one day.

Fediverse instances are mostly run by unpaid volunteers who rely on donations to keep going. It's not just the time they give, but the running costs of the servers that they pay for.

If you use the Fediverse, please consider donating to the instance you signed up on. Donations help keep the Fedi ad-free and privacy-friendly.

On Mastodon, you can find details on how to donate by clicking "About this server" in the bottom left corner of the screen.

For those of you that like numbers, here's some interesting stats from our CDN in the last 30 days...

1.24TB of data and over 13 million requests, with ~70% of those served from the CDN.

It’s bad enough that I have to wait for my computers to update. Now I have to wait for my bloody car to update too!

Improved the "Reply to this post" button on my site so that it automatically adds the post title to the subject line.

Isn't fun!

Hi there, here’s a little
I retrained (after years of repairing computers for friends and family), a couple of years ago to be an IT tech. I landed a job, which required me to automate many tasks with PowerShell, and I fell in the automation trap! so, I am currently learning Python. So here I am, to meet like-minded people, to share opinions, projects, virtual beverages…

I'm going to be trying something a little different on my blog over the next few weeks/months.
