Looking for recommendations for interesting tech books. Here’s some examples of stuff I’ve read and enjoyed:

American Kingpin
Bad Blood (Theranos)
The CooKoo’s Egg
Permanent Record (was ok...)

Any recommendations would be very welcome. Thanks, folks.

I didn't realize was a thing either.

I'm Frito! 👋 My wife and friends even call me that even though it's not my given name. I'm a linux dabbler since 2k turned linux desktop user in 2019.

I'm also a software engineer by trade with my current main languages as Node, Python and C#. The bad / good news depending how you view it is I'm a git/vim guy. I mainly lurk here since I don't have much to post but I still ❤️ the community!

Here's a post on my site with a bunch of my personal website recommendations with a stupid title: the.geekorium.com.au/flamming-

With shout-outs to @kev @ggarron @zerok @yarmo @glasnt @mike and a bunch of other fediverse peeps who got briefer mentions

Hello folks. Jarock is my alias. I just dropped in, I was just looking for a community of this nature. I’m a big fan of free and open source content. I’ve been using Linux on and off as a desktop OS for several years now, although I do have a in home network server hosted on a raspberry pi running raspbian. I use samba Apache Plex ampache. I’m interested in virtualization and dipping my toes into that one of these days. Welp , that’s my first toot, y’all

My Hey email trial just expired and had you asked me a couple days in, I was pretty sure I was going to convert to a paying customer. After two weeks, I don’t think I will.

It’s nice and I like the concept of the feed and paper trail. But, it doesn’t feel like the right solution to the problem they’re trying to solve. The absence of some archiving system is also a bit baffling.

The trial did show me that there is room for improvement with email, but also that Hey doesn’t seem to be the one.

Thanks @celia for the "push" I needed to start this up :)

@celia website (rusingh.com) is one of the best designed websites I’ve seen in a long time. I love pretty much everything about it. Beautiful site.

Been really impressed with Plausible Analytics over the last few weeks, so I’ve now upgraded my account.

If you’re interested, head over to plausible.io or ping @markosaric

Hey @markosaric I just saw this on Twitter from Cassidy (Elementary). It’s interesting.

Please stop with the auto playing videos that cover part of the screen on mobile, when I'm trying to read an article on your news site. I'm trying to ignore the video, it seems irrelevant. Just let me read the article I was linked to. This is total disrespect for your users.

"Google drops Blogspot India domain breaking hundreds of thousands of links"

What a mess!

Lessons:

1. Move away from Blogspot. It's not getting any love

2. Own your domain name even if you post on someone else's platform (so you can switch if necessary)

One thing I do notice, is that the community I have come across on here seems infinitely more informed and civil than the average person on Twitter. I left Twotter for a few months and just checked it out again.. Holy shit.. It's been more than two years since I left Facebook and I don't even want to know..

Email has been discussed a lot lately. Perhaps it's because we all rely on it more during this period of lockdown. Maybe it's due to Hey being released? Or are we all realising that email is an old technology and we need to move on? Whatever the reason may be, people are talking about email; heres my take on it.
