You know what I really love about this community?
Yesterday I was annoyed and frustrated, so slammed Git. Today I’ve posted about the Keybase acquisition.
We have a lot of devs here, so these are subjects close to peoples’ heart.
Not once. Not a single time did I receive a reply saying something akin to “shit up Kev, you dick. You don’t know what you’re talking about.” (which would be a fair comment).
Instead I’ve had constructive feedback and offers to help me learn.
You guys blow my mind.
@kev shit up Kev, you dick. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Sorry, someone had to do it.
@kev honestly, it's brilliant to be around all this chat. Just saw via reddit about the Zoom hire and immediately hopped on here to see what fellow FOSS advocates thought. (well, I came here to ask about it but that was my naivety getting the best of me, of course the discussion would already be a-go!)
Personally, I don't use keybase much so it's a pretty dormant service, it almost feels like that platform is trying to do too much? 🤷♀️
@kev i would say the opposite of twitter but I had a similar rant there about pop_os a few days back and the system76 CEO replied and opened a bug. Maybe humanity isn't lost after all?
@chris that’s really cool actually! Having said that, from what I’ve seen as an outsider, the system 76 guys are generally really good.
@kev Their support has been so good it won me back to Linux from Apple. I never thought that would be the case for any Linux company.
@chris I think my next laptop is likely to be a 76.
@kev I wandered back onto the bird site and it's full of angry politics, I didn't realise before because it was normal, but it's really quite stressful to be bombarded by all that.
Plan on taking responsebilety for making this?
@Twelve I’m just some idiot who decided to setup an instance with some other guy. It’s the people that make the community.
Well somebody had to set up the instence for the comunety to evwn exist in the forst place
Is somebody complaining that the community is too friendly 🤔
That is understandable since many toxic members of FOSS communities are the earlier members who stick to older technologies. Mastodon is too young to be adopted by those members. By the time they start using Mastodon and similar me technologies, newer and friendlier members will be wide spread enough to silence toxic members.
That is at least why I think this community is clean from toxic people.
I do wonder if that's because you don't get jerks who are early adopters. As in, as this community grows, so does its diversity.
I've noticed that the best gaming experiences I've had were when the game was in alpha stage and it got progressively worse as it moved to beta and then release.
@karan yeah, maybe. I suppose the beauty of being federated is that we stay in complete control. So it’s different to something like a Facebook group or G+ Community.
Fosstodon is an English speaking Mastodon instance that is open to anyone who is interested in technology; particularly free & open source software.
