@kernellogger things seeming too abstract is precisely why I wrote my book the way I did (essentially a deep, deep dive and effectively code commentary from bottom-up).

We all need to start somewhere and texts abstracting things then help at lot getting to know a field. Depending on what you want to do it might be enough already; other times you need more precise descriptions. And those are sometimes hard to find or not existing.
@kernellogger yes definitely there's a place for both kinds, Robert's book is incredible, I read it cover to cover.
