Thinking about how a fanfiction fediverse platform might look. Something that supports advanced search and multi-chapter navigation. I don't know if this defeats some purposes of defederation, but more robust federation of posts (fics) would be ideal since all the content is fiction (as opposed to the implications of readily federating people's personal microblog posts).
I don't know if "more robust federation" is actually possible, since I have no technical knowledge.
If it is, maybe other types of fanwork like art, video, and audio can be considered too.
Fandom is hard pressed to thrive if posts aren't more easily federated, since its entire being relies on community.
If that kind of thing was self-hostable, sounds so great
@XxAlexXx yeah, the discoverability sucks though. And that's what fandom relies on to exist--its meant to be a community for fans to find each other, inspire each other, and share with each other love for the same thing. Discoverability sucking is almost like a pro for personal microblogging, but it's a great hindrance for a culture like fandom.
@XxAlexXx yeah in my experience even hashtags on here are not so great because mastodon is designed not to federate with as many instances as possible from the get-go. So the posts under hashtags can be very few. It makes sense since microblogging can be rapid and too much traffic. But for something like fanfic, things get published slower, so maybe it would still be possible to make federateration more active and not suffer traffic or resource wasting issues.
Fosstodon is an English speaking Mastodon instance that is open to anyone who is interested in technology; particularly free & open source software.
