Pinned toot

Guys I need a friendly advice.

I am a fresh graduate in physics of complex systems, that means that I am proficient in Data Science, modeling and programming with lots of data but I do not have experience. I am also studying to take OSCP by myself.

I really want to work for a company that makes of open source or privacy or ethic of software in general their priority.

Where should I look for? Do you have any advice for me?

Pinned toot

In my dreams I will to open a small blogging website and write simple articles and guides for people who does not know that most of the times there is an alternative to proprietary software. I noticed that a lot of people dislike Google and similar pieces of software but they do not know how to switch to an alternative and if it is worth it.

Sadly I do not know where to start. This is still a little dream

Today I got promoted to IT manager position after my proposal got approved by the management to use multiple open source solutions and replace propriety products the company is using.

Tests went well and they were happy with the services. I will be handling the migration and training for the coming months.

To thank the wonderful open source community I will be donating a part of my pay for the coming 3 months.

Ok, so I did the thing. I haven’t posted anything yet, but feel free to follow me if you want to be bored. 😁

Yesterday a woman in my class asked if she could look at the source to the apps running on her own computer. To learn how they really worked.

She was running Windows; and there just wasn't time to go into the whole thing.

I told her that for most apps on her computer, probably not. The source code wasn't publicly available. But there were many which did have public code.

It was a very surreal moment feeling the rubber of ideology hitting the road of the academic setting right there.

remember not to access ANYTHING of Amazon's the next two days.
This means:
no Twitch
no IDBM
no audible
no comixology
no kindle
no amazon music
no amazon prime tv
no whole foods
none of the amazon stores

If you have Amazon Prime, cancel it, just resub afterwards if you want, don't even go for it if you're offered a free month. Unplug Alexa if you have her for any reason, don't impulse buy anything.

Tech friends, what is the non tech thing that you enjoy most? I am curious, I want to know!
I start. I love acting! I play in theaters since 2009. Theatrical improvvisation at the moment.

Hi everyone! I'm a young student, that embraces the philosophy of free software. Even if I am not a computer expert, as a graduate in Philosophy, I understand the principles of free software and I follow them.

I was in love with KDE but then I discovered GNOME... purrfection

This is something that really needs to be looked at. It's nice to get software that's free both as in beer and freedom, but sometimes you can't have both.

I just wanna put it out there that the word for “being polite on mastodon” should be fediquette

We are writing the Manifesto of our website.
I do not want to share the name yet. The Manifesto will be the first post written in Italian and English: the website will also be mainly in Italian due to language limitations of authors. We will probably translate it in eng in the future as the website develops. Maybe more than english with some help.

We’re now on Mastodon 2.9, which comes with the new single column layout.

New users will get the new layout, but existing users will need to switch.

You can switch between the single and multi column layouts by going to Settings > Preferences > Appearance then enabling/disabling the “Advanced Web Interface”.
