It's official: our first desktop app will be for Linux / FreeDesktop.org-compliant desktops.
And it's coming out this week 😀
Wow... It's almost like we're completely screwed.

not a single time has a “hey, fuck you, you’re using one of those adblockers” interstitial tried the approach of saying “we ensure our ads are unobtrusive, lightweight & malware-free, so please consider not blocking our ads,” an approach which might actually get me to consider it
When I tried F-Droid for the first time I was a bit apprehensive and afraid of the unknown. Mainly because of Apps I won't be able to get.
However, it has been such pleasure to use and it's got all the apps one could ask for. Awesome!
Considering to flash my personal phone and install fdroid and not Google Play
At the same conference, I was talking to a woman who was enthusiastically describing her company's tech. I asked, "are you a founder, developer?" She was a founder.
Always assume people are experts, even if they don't "look like" your conception of an expert.
You'll either be right, or if you're wrong, it'll still be a respectful assumption. And it'll probably be a relief to people constantly needing to justify why they belong in a space.
@g Something that makes it easy to transition is that while a lot of windows software isn't available on Linux, a lot of Linux software is on Windows. So you can start gradually replacing whatever you use on Windows with a Linux-friendly FOSS option and then making the switch isn't so hard.
Also, make backups!
Just came across a great high-level description of the process of growing a web-application from self-hosted-hosted-in-your-garage scale all the way to enterprise scale. Very informative: https://stephenmann.io/post/whats-in-a-production-web-application/
So I’m going on holiday in November, and am thinking I’ll nuke my netbook drive and take it with me to transfer photos to and holiday documents/brochures. It’s pretty old, currently has Ubuntu with i3 on it but want it a bit more usable for the wife if she needs to look something up. Suggestions for light DE? Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Mint?
I’m not going down the Arch route this time 😊

@kaniini App.net (ADN) had done this; you could add a website to your account and if that website linked back to your ADN account you were eligible for the verified checkmark. I could imagine something similar implemented in Mastodon, Pleroma and other fediverse software.
Hmm. Now I need to actually follow people on Fosstodon, as the local timeline zips by a bit too quick for my sporadic checking 😆
