Nigel @ignitionigel

What does everyone use for ? I need shareable (currently using googs) and have a variety of email providers.
I found www.getmailbird.com. Looks pretty. Thoughts?

@ignitionigel I still use Google myself, but I've been seriously considering ProtonMail. Calendar is about the only reason I don't switch over. I've also briefly considered self hosting, but I just haven't been able to find the motivation to do it.

@mike I use gmail for the calendars, but my main email is on my own domain and hosted elsewhere.
I was curious about what folks use for a windows email client too.

@ignitionigel I just go through inbox.google.com, regardless of platform, and use the Inbox app on my phone/tablet. I'm super boring.

@mike I get that. It just means you have better thing to spend time on 🙂

@ignitionigel @mike I've been considering ProtonMail too.

Mail has always been "free", which makes paying for it difficult to justify. Which is odd as it's pretty cheap and an important service

@mattmcnutt @ignitionigel I used to pay for Yahoo! mail back in the 90s before Gmail existed. I don't actually mind paying for it, and honestly, $4 a month is probably worth it to me so I don't have to mess with my own self hosted system. I'd probably have already switched, but my wife is also on Gmail, and we have family calendars and events on Google. It would just complicate things to run too many different email accounts. I've already got too many!

@ignitionigel I use my web host for email, and @nextcloud for calendar/contacts. Calendar can be shared via caldav. I use DAVdroid to sync it all to my phone.

@ignitionigel

I host my own and use #Orgzly for notes etc. But if you want #email + #calendar check out disroot.org (@disroot).

Also @KrokR has looked into this so he might have some further suggestions.

Finally, if you buy a domain, certain registrars will also provide you with email and calendar services.

#disroot

@orbifx
Fiy. We do custom domains and email aliases for regular contributors.
@ignitionigel @KrokR

@ignitionigel I'm really impressed with . I'm using it to sync my Googleless phone for , and . Even the integrated doesn't suck.

@ignitionigel I use both Fastmail and Google for Enterprise. Fastmail meets your requirements and uses CalDAV for calendars. You can share them: fastmail.com/help/calendar/sha
Fastmail is a good service

@ignitionigel are you looking for a desktop email client? For what OS/ distro?

@strypey yeah, the wife needs a client for windows, as I'd prefer not to pay Microflaccid tax.
She's actually using Mailbird but it seems quite buggy. She'd use Thunderbird but the text size seems non standard vs outlook and others, it's either too big or too small by default.
I might have to look into it again, as Mail bird has just tonight decided it won't display her signature images, so she had to re-do her sig. Just hassle she doesn't need while working.

@ignitionigel good luck with that ;) It's been so long since I knew anyone who used #Windows and *not* webmail, I have no idea what to suggest (other than Thunderbird)

@strypey Yeah I'm in the same boat. We have abunch of stuff to sort out as we go, setting up a new business is a lot of small annoying things lol.

@ignitionigel I don't suppose you'd be able to convince the wife to dual-boot #GNU / #Linux and give it a try? An up-to-date version of Evolution does email, contacts, and calendar. The other thing you could look at, if you have a box you could set up as a server, is NextCloud. I believe that has clients for all platforms. You can try it out at disroot.org

@strypey Yeah the plan is nextcloud doing exactly that, as some point in the near future...

There is no way I could convince her to dual boot, and I wouldn't want to be tech support if/when something doesn't work for her as she has to do weird shit to log into govt portals that has to "just work" while I'm at my job and she's working from the home office.

She's used my Linux machine and doesn't mind it, but yeah.
