Desktop is designed to make most use of 1366x768 resolution of my laptop.
There are 2 panels:
=> Top panel: grey, contains user's full name, time and system tray. User's name is replaced with Window action buttons (close, maximise, minimise) as well as global menu (files, edit, view, about etc) to save space
=> bottom panel: transparent, application menu, running and pinned app icons.
Both panels are pushed off screen when an app needs that space or goes full screen.

Inside the strange new world of being a deepfake actor
Hi everyone. I'm Allen.
I'm a professor in digital humanities, a recovering Classicist (where I nerd-ed out in ancient Greek literature), and a Linux hobbyist I suppose.
I'm particularly interested in the intersections of FOSS, privacy, edtech, and k-12 and higher ed.
I do a mix of teaching and work in data science, web development, literature, history, and culture. Egypt in the morning; R in the afternoon. I also tinker with retrotech and play saxophone from time to time.
The team is confident that cross-signing and QR verif is ready for the Big Release, and that e2e can be turned on by default in Matrix #fosdem 🤔
For you guys using nextcloud, I created a python script to fetch talk messages and send them via a gotify server, so you don't have to rely on google push notifications. It's by no means Production Ready, it still has a long TODO list. Maybe someone of you would like to contribute.
Whoever thought autoplay enabled by default was a good idea needs to be fired: https://www.xda-developers.com/google-play-store-autooplaying-videos/
@debacle I've actually only played with it; it's more hackish than Conversations. I saw the announcement about calls (just voice, no?). Gajim seems to working on the same. I shouldn't hope but can't help it.
@trawzified @pv Sadly, some news sites are making their RSS feeds harder to find or only making the first paragraph rather than the whole article available. Specific to news, I've RSS to be much more overwhelming, since you end up with hundreds of posts a day, whereas on Twitter one can follow individual journalist.
Fosstodon is an English speaking Mastodon instance that is open to anyone who is interested in technology; particularly free & open source software.
