When I get back from vacation, I have a bunch of articles to write for h4ck3r9.com

One I have been churning in my noggin is the future of the internet. is revolutionary. What if all of the federated services worked together? I could easily see a federated web being the future of the internet. Or perhaps the web splits into 2 parts, the commercial web of Google and Facebook, and the open source federated web. These are the electric sheep of my dreams.

@h4ck3r9 I think you're right there. The masses will still be guided by our benvolent overlords, and there will be the decentralised net as well - and also the ol' darknet, I guess.

@ignitionigel more and more I am reminded of Snow Crash. Every page I read makes me think of a future we may have, but Snow Crash didn't have the decentralized web.

@h4ck3r9 Isn't the core of that identification though? A clear service to be able to pin point people that you follow on different federated services?

Like I want to follow you, but I use "bumbibobbi.net" or something - lets say its a federated music thing. To be able to connect us that would require a clear way to organize and publish our identities to connect the services.

I mean federation is revolutionary, but bridging different feds will become critical at some point.

@ohyran true true, but I think it will all work out. I'm excited about the possibilities of the future. I hope that tomorrow's kids won't even know what today's internet is like. Twitter will be a bogieman of the past, and Google/Facebook will be synonymous with the commercial web. It will be like having theme parks and public parks living along side each other.
