looking at the latest hn thread about mastodon and seeing at least a half-dozen people who are essentially saying: "i went on mastodon and the people on there were behaving in a kind and respectful way, and it was too stressful to make myself behave in a kind and respectful way too, so i left"

weirds me out so much when i read stuff like this. like gives me a massive huge "unknowability of the other" feeling

like. what's the most charitable way we can interpret this sentiment?? are they saying "i'm incredibly clumsy and can't be trusted around people who i may hurt"? or "i just want to be allowed to be an asshole because it fits my personal brand and makes me feel cool and other people actually telling me this isn't cool is cramping my style"???

So for the identifying as a robot...whatever. For the "bot" tag...it's a semantics thing so...wtf :S

For the HN comments, there *are* people here who behave in a toxic fashion, under the guise of social justice (have had some of those targeting me personally), but to claim that mastodon is an "SJW bikeshed" is far beyond the truth.

One interesting point that was mentioned was about the kinds of people who migrate.

On one hand, there are people who come to The Fediverse from Twitter because they believe it's under-moderated and other who migrate because they think Twitter is over-moderated.

What's interesting, is that there's a home here for both groups.

I still have my Twitter account for DMing with friends mostly, and auto posting my videos.

Here, the people are just more interesting and generally pleasant to talk to.

Tbh, I don't know if I want Masto to go mainstream. I like it here.

@ChrisWere I completely agree, if it goes mainstream though, it'll be easy to restrict our timelines because of decentralization.

Hopefully masto instances can globally be marked as commercial or something at some point that way those who don't want that in their federated timeline, won't get it

@brandon actually yes I did. :) that was one of my favorite words. As an avid student of language, I actually think that word should be added to the dictionary. It's already in my AOSP keyboard dictionary. :)

@brandon yeah, that was pretty graphic for words on a page. I mean the stimulation of the imagination was very in depth. Purely a psychological experience for the reader. Nowadays, you'd have to put that behind a content warning.
