Child asleep in parents lap on plane. Flight attendant makes the parent put the child in its own seat. Child wakes up. Hasn't stopped screaming since.

Sometimes rules suck. Who do you blame? The child? The parent? The stewardess? The FAA?

You'd think that Plankton would just have someone other than SpongeBob grab him a Krabby Patty. He can't do it, and neither can SpongeBob. But Bikini Bottom surely has someone reasonably reliable.

I use cpio every day at work. I won't say why, because I'd rather not bore you. But it's very archaic, and I imagine it's been around since time began.

The year is 5019. Humans, as we know them, are long gone. The Earth is inhabited chiefly by advanced, sapient machines.

For legacy reasons, everyone's name starts with "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible;".

The most frustrating thing is when people (*cough* coworkers) 'chmod 777' to attempt to fix permissions problems. If you don't know how to use them, don't freaking touch them.

A bit sad it's behind some sort of privacy invading registration. And the white paper appears to be nothing more than a basic man page with Ubuntu typeface.

Pixelfed will be a year old in a few days.

I'm a high school dropout that has never taken any CS or computer classes.

Web development is just a hobby of mine, I work in the auto industry.

I'm so proud of this project, I never would have imagined that I could make something like this.

Thank you for helping me realize credentialism isn't so important as you think. ❤️ :pixelfed:

My toddler is smarter than me.

There! I admitted it!

The @blender community have done it again! Behold Spring, Blender's new film. Beautiful designs and fantastic effects show how you can create professional, Hollywood-grade CGI using Free Software. Congrats Blender!

If you are getting a Pepper and Carrot vibe, it is no coincidence: @davidrevoy, creator of P&C, used @krita to design the look of the film:

You know what’s awesome? Essentially everyone with a computer has access to literally unbreakable encryption if they choose to learn how to use it. That’s an underrated accomplishment.

Here are the release notes for MATE Desktop 1.22 🎉 Thanks to all the upstream contributors for their hard work 👨‍💻👩‍💻

MATE 1.22 released

I'll never understand the hostility of some towards snap/flatpak/appimage. In various corners of the internet I see people talking about how much "they suck" and how their distribution shouldn't support them.

But why deprive their users of choice? If I want to sell my soul to Spotify, then I'll be damned if I let a Linux distro stop me.

We think of plants as stationary beings, but they're not. They just live on different timescales to animals like us.

All plants move, their leaves jostling amongst each other, trying to catch the optimal amount of light. But mostly, we don't notice.

Sometimes, I catch my plants moving when their leaves brush past each other. Usually after I adjust their lights, the fussy little things.
